Congratulations to Horacio Hernandez receiving the AY 22/23 Public Health Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship award.
As a first generation Latino in the US, I’ve seen family members and close ones encounter obstacles in trying to access healthcare services ranging from language barriers, being uninsured and transportation. Seeing how efforts within public health have made strides to not only improve access to healthcare but also advocate for more equitable lives for communities that look like me and my family, I’ve been attracted to be a part of that change. To be able to use my skill set, both academically and culturally, to improve the lives of people who look like my loved ones and people who share similar experiences as my family, is what fuels me in my commitment toward equity in public health as a future member of the public health workforce. Una vida mejor para todos es posible.
